The Proper Care and Feeding of Your Wardrobe: Capes in Transitional Weather

Capes are big this season. They aren't difficult to style when it's cold, but since most of the US is currently stuck in transitional weather it's hard to figure out how to wear them. So I've pulled outfits from Atlantic-Pacific, Late Afternoon and 9-5 Chic for some inspiration for us all.

Atlantic-Pacific's outfit is created around a simple color palette. Neutral accessories frame a floral dress that gives a great pop of color.  A short sleeve cape (under which she can later on wear a long-sleeved shirt or turtleneck once the weather gets cold) in a neutral tone, a large bag (also neutral), black heels and sunglasses and a floral dress in gorgeous rust, ochre and chocolate brown colors make the perfect outfit when it's not too cold outside.

Late Afternoon's take on capes in transitional weather is to go with bare legs, but more covered up top. She pairs a white jacket underneath the caramel cape with a berry colored bag that brings out the colors in her floral dress. Just like Atlantic-Pacific, she lets the neutral tones of the cape and jacket provide a great foil for her dress and bag.

9-5 Chic approaches the look in a more casual, Saturday afternoon kind of way. The neutral colors (again) of the shirt, shorts and sandals look amazing against the chunky knit of her cape. The cape is not as structured as the first two, so it can be worn and styled as you would a sweater.
